I don't know... there's something about this that seems wrong. Vaguely racist. (Pompus, at least, given that he's speaking for God.) It almost sounds like he's saying "we don't want no white folk down here." I don't think that's what he meant, but that's the way it sounds to me.

New Orleans Mayor: God Wants City To Be Mostly Black
POSTED: 2:40 pm EST January 16, 2006 Email This Story | Print This Story NEW ORLEANS -- The mayor of New Orleans is predicting that his city will once again be "a majority African-American city."
In a Martin Luther King Day speech to a crowd at City Hall, Mayor Ray Nagin said, "It's the way God wants it to be." He said you can't have New Orleans any other way.
Before Hurricane Katrina displaced about three-quarters of its population, the city was more than 60 percent black. The storm spared several mostly-white neigbhborhoods, and hit black areas the hardest.
Nagin told the crowd gathered for a King Day march, "It's time for us to rebuild New Orleans."
Along the city's Martin Luther King Boulevard, an area near a King statue and memorial was cleaned up and landsaped in advance of today's parade. But many of the buildings nearby are abandoned and in ruins -- including a major public housing project. |

I was being a bit generous perhaps.
Is this getting more news play than I've heard? I don't watch TV news at all, usually.

No, actually I have heard virtually nothing about it except on my local right-wing talk radio station, Patriot 1280 AM. They covered that whole thing quite a bit for a couple days.
To me, from the tapes I heard, that was incredibly racist...
But beyond that, I still don't get why to rebuild at all. New Orleans they call "vibrant" and such words, it was part of the most corrupt political state in the nation, and the whole way the hurricane was handled proved it...and going further, when you entire city is below seaslevel, and ON the sea, well, it belongs to the ocean, let her have it...the day my back yard is a damn keeping water out of it is the day I move. It's not MEANT to be a city, it's meant to be under water, let mother nature do her thing.
Or, thats my two cents anyway.
