I'm about 99.98% decided to change the name of this site to 'Politic Minds'.  I floated this name to active forum members a year ago (or was it 2?) and feedback was either positive -- "sounds good" -- or neutral -- "it's your site; do whatever you want".

'Free Squid' is cool due to its geeky nature and the excuse it gives for designing with a black-background theme, but for branding purposes it doesn't seem appropiate for a site dedicated to serious exploration of political thought.  So I'm thinking it best to say good-bye to the squid logo (saving him for a site-yet-to-be-named), and change over to a more context-relevant name.

The best I've been able to come up with is 'PoliticMinds'.  It wasn't my first choice -- it could be confusing for new users to remember, but upon closer examination of the meaning for 'politic' it's actually rather a cool domain.  It's the only one available that gives me the warm, fuzzy feeling ;) that comes from having a "good" domain.

Of course, if anyone has a better idea, my mind is open to suggestions. Please contact me by email rather than posting suggestions here for all the world to see. (Thanks in advance.)

Current usage (mostly lefty sites, unfortunately)

thepolitic.org

Welcome to The Politic, Yale's undergraduate journal of politics. We seek to bridge the gap between academia and the world of politics and policy.

Welcome
Saturday, 25 August 2007
The Politic is a quarterly Yale University student publication that traces its roots to 1947, when the Yale Political Journal: A Magazine of Student Opinion was founded. It was revived in 1979 as Yale Political Monthly and known alternately as Yale Political Magazine during the next twenty years. Finally The Politic was established in the spring of 2001, inspired by the desire for undergraduates’ participation in debates about the 2000 presidential election and launched as a means to keep the greater Yale community informed about the most important local, national, and global political issues. The Politic features articles and commentary from students, professors, and prominent national politicians and is able to empower students by providing them access to the experience and insights of some of the most prominent political leaders and thinkers of our time. Building upon Yale's rich political heritage, The Politic strives to promote greater understanding and cooperation between academia and the world of politics.

ArtPolitic Manifesto

ArtPolitic is a group of artists who have come together in order to bring to light social and political issues that we have deemed important. Collectively, ArtPolitic and it's members seek to promote thought, interest, and passion for a variety of diverse social issues. We seek to inform others and incite change through our art.

Our art is strong and opinionated, and anything you see here will have a definite message, not merely eye-candy. However, as artists, we are incredibly aware of the value of aesthetics and form, which goes hand-in-hand with content, so everything you look at will not only be meaningful, it will be attractive to the eye as well.

As artists with a definite social message, we also put an extremely high value on feedback and discussion, and as such, visitors are encouraged to talk about and even argue with what they might see on this site in our forums.

ArtPolitic is a new type of art-group. With many perspectives, using many different artistic tools, we attempt to explain and show the importance of social, civil, and political activity. We hope you can learn something while you are here.

   The Politic Mind's Blurbs
About me:
"The most daring political opinion is Love." - Me
generated by sloganizer.net

I have a brain, and I'm not afraid to use it.

I have this profile so that I can express myself about matters social and political. My brain is generally just bursting with juicy thoughts about life, people, and the world as we know it. Often, I find, I am of more than one mind about issues, but usually the mind that wins out is the saner and more well-adjusted one (thank goodness). On my blog here, nevertheless, I hope you will find a number of fine pickings from the vast garden of my brain, and maybe even a few rotten ploppings that not even a dog would touch. Hopefully it will be interesting, informative, entertaining, funny, and all-around grand; just like "The Daily Show" or "Countdown," but with even more conscious social indignation.

I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4
Who I'd like to meet:
Barack Obama
George W. Bush after he's out of office; Bill Clinton (shook his hand, unknowing of where it had been lol); John Stewart; Keith Olbermann; Stephen Colbert; Al Franken; David Horowitz; Bono; ppl on my heroes, friends list...

The Politic Mind's Interests
General    WHEN THE PEOPLE FEAR THEIR GOVERNMENT, THERE IS TYRANNY; WHEN THE GOVERNMENT FEARS THE PEOPLE, THERE IS LIBERTY. -- THOMAS JEFFERSON (a natural redhead)

THEY WHO CAN GIVE UP ESSENTIAL LIBERTY TO OBTAIN A LITTLE TEMPORARY SAFETY DESERVE NEITHER LIBERTY NOR SAFETY. -- BENJAMIN FRANKLIN

THE FACT IS, TRUTH IS YOUR TRUEST FRIEND, NO MATTER WHAT THE CIRCUMSTANCES ARE. -- ABRAHAM LINCOLN

"...loyalty to the Nation ALL the time, loyalty to the Government when it deserves it." -- Czar Nicholas II; also, Mark Twain

Politically and socially my interests lie with those who want to help the truly needy, not just the top 1% of the US population (i.e. Dubya and cronies).

I am not a part of the "Christian Right;" nor, I suppose the "Christian Left," whatever you might think that is. Call me a "L-leaning Christian Middle Independent" and that would be close.

My biggest problem with politics today is that we think that someone that is 'conservative' cannot also be 'democratic', despite the idea that the people who founded our country were basically conservative democrats.

Television    The Daily Show; Countdown w/ Keith Olbermann; The Colbert Report; Anderson Cooper 360; various

Sept. 27 (-?) 2007 on PBS
Books    I have read so many books, it's hard to keep track; from the Bible to Douglas Adams to Dickens to Shakespeare to Tolkien to M Shelley.

I have taken a political philosophy course, anything more intensive into the study of 'politics' and I would be asleep. To read: America by John Stewart; Worst Persons in the World by Keith Olbermann; 'The End of Time' by David Horowitz, because it looks interesting and not just b/c he is a 'conservative'.

Heroes    Jesus, Ghandi, Abe Lincoln, Martin Luther, Martin Luther King Jr., my mother

With so many Lefties using 'politic', I hope this doesn't mean the word has a Lefty connotation.  It shouldn't.  It deserves better.

We'll just have to rebrand it as right-thinking, conservative wisdom. :)

Some of the definitions are positive:
wise, diplomatic, sensible, prudent

Politic Minds
Exploring politics & culture with intelligence, candor, and goodwill

Politic Minds
Exploring politics & culture with wisdom, candor, and goodwill
